Coping with the stress of modern life can be suffocating. In New Zealand, Australia and the United States, the vast majority of people find themselves constantly surrounded by bustling crowds and crowded streets, living in endless concrete cities.
More than three quarters of the population live in urban areas. Cities offer attractive employment opportunities and exciting nightlife. However, cities have higher levels of air and noise pollution, are more crowded and are more stressful. This can have a negative impact on the physical and mental health of people living in these urban areas.
DING KIN offers a way out, a way to escape the constant noise and stress of city life. It’s an opportunity to unleash your full potential, disconnect from the world and discover happiness.
Things we need to consider
DING KIN is a growing trend. All the distractions of the modern world; the backlighting of computers, the snapping of keyboards, the constant “pinging” noise of cell phones, make many of us want to escape, get back to nature, and experience the beauty that nature has to offer.
So what can we do to help make that happen for everyone?
Environmental Protection
There is nothing more pressing today than reducing our impact on the planet. We are in a battle to leave the world better than we found it for future generations. We can do better.
Fortunately, there are many groups and individuals committed to doing their part.
The ongoing Green Revolution is at the heart of “DING KIN.” From concept to construction, sustainability is considered throughout the process.
Our containers are brand new and unused and have been given a whole new lease of life through upcycling.
By “upcycling”, we mean transforming something into something superior, prettier or more useful.
All of our container interiors are made from sustainable materials. We also offer a range of environmentally friendly energy sources:
Solar panels
Wind power
Hydroelectricity
Promoting Mental Health
The modern world is full of bright lights, loud noises and bad news. Constant access to social media has many of us hooked. People are checking their latest posts every day to see how many people have liked and commented. Chasing this approval can have a huge negative impact on mental health.
The need for everyone in society to be “on” at all times makes “off” almost impossible.
Our container homes allow you to disconnect from the outside world. When you are in your own space, in nature, you will feel the stresses of the modern world moving away from you.
Spending more time in nature’s green space can do wonders for your mental health. The right environment helps to
Reduce stress
Make you feel more relaxed
Boost emotional and physical health
However you want to escape the stresses of modern society, living ‘off the grid’ can help. The internet, the traffic, the ringing phones and the flashing lights; whatever way you want to escape it all, our container homes have you covered.
Finding the Perfect Space
The key to an off-grid lifestyle is nature. Finding the perfect space to get away from the rat race and return to the beautiful world around us.
Do you want your perfect space to be a stone’s throw from the city? Absolutely! Do you want to escape civilization altogether? No worries! Do you need to use public transportation? Fine! Whatever your perfect space looks like, if it works for you, it’s right.
Living off the grid is all about removing the restrictions on your life. But “living off the grid” doesn’t need to be completely off the map. If you want to keep some distance from the modern world, you can do it.
Off the Grid Living converted container homes don’t require the same planning permission as traditional bricks and mortar homes, so it’s easier to find the ideal space.
Any space can be perfect as long as you can legally use the land you occupy. Perfect for getting back to nature, perfect for finding yourself, getting away from it all, disconnecting, exploring and discovering.
How to reinforce a container house
While shipping container homes are emerging in New Zealand, Australia, and the United States, the realities of building these homes still need to be a little more grounded.
Our containers are made from aluminum extrusions that can withstand extreme weather and storms at sea.
They can hold tens of thousands of kilograms of cargo and can be stacked to save space for long-distance transportation. This means they have to be very strong.
This inherent core structural strength would be greatly weakened if parts of the outer wall were removed to install windows and doors. For this reason, our professional design team needs to know exactly where to reinforce the walls with steel beams or welded sections in order to provide your shipping container home with the support it needs.
The design of a container house may seem simple on the surface, but it is actually carefully planned from the start to maximize space, frame stability and safety. Cutting too much from the frame can completely disrupt the balance of the container, so all work must be done by professionals.
Modern Container Houses
For many people, the thought of living off-grid conjures up images of cluttered campervans, cold nights huddled in tents, and warm soup and hearty meals over a fading fire.
At Living Off the Grid, we are passionate about dispelling this misconception. We want to create spaces that people want to live, work and exercise in because they are beautiful and suitable for a variety of uses, not just because they are different.
Take a look at some of our current designs, as well as some of our past projects.
How to Convert Shipping Containers into Homes
The practicalities of converting a shipping container into a home require a lot of hard work from our design and build team. From identifying any structural limitations and overcoming them, to installing supports in all the right places to make sure your shipping container home stands and keeps you safe.
However, what makes a shipping container a home is exactly the same as what makes a house a home; the people.
We create beautiful spaces that allow you to get back to nature and rediscover yourself.
But we can’t make it truly a home. Only you can make it so.
Your space belongs to you. Invite your family over, bring your pets along to experience the natural world, cook a home-cooked meal and share it with those you love.
All of this makes a shipping container truly a home.
